We are a small, friendly club. We’ve been running since 2010, supporting local and up-and-coming performers, as well as booking established artists on the acoustic scene.
We want to encourage more people to enjoy live acoustic music and we welcome floor spots from singers, musicians and spoken word performers.
We meet weekly, on Thursday evenings, upstairs at Loughton Club, 8 Station Road, IG10 4NX
Doors open at 7.30pm, the music starts around 8 and we finish around 10.30.
Entry is usually £8 (cash only, please).
There is a well-stocked bar downstairs at Club prices.
We start our evenings with floor spots and our guest acts perform the first of two 40 minute sets from around 8.20.
We have a break after the first set to chat, refill our glasses, buy merchandise from the performers and raffle tickets to support the folk club and then we continue with floor spots and the second set from our main act.
In the words of one new member who joined us recently “This is the most welcoming club I have been to. They made me feel at home and part of the club from my first evening there. They clapped and laughed with me rather than at me when I made a mistake on my first floor spot, and they all join in (with some great harmonies) when I sing any song with a chorus. Anyone could turn up here simply to listen, or to perform, and immediately feel part of the warmth.”
Many of the acts who visit also comment on how welcoming and friendly the club feels and how everyone wants to join in with singing the choruses.
If you fancy performing a floor spot it doesn’t have to be traditional folk material. We are open to all. Regular contributions from our residents include music hall songs, blues tunes, instrumentals, songs from outside the UK and poetry.
You don’t usually have to book in advance to do a floor spot, just speak to Gary or Jennifer when you arrive. However, if you’re travelling a long way or likely to arrive after we’ve started, it would be a good idea to let us know you’re coming, so as not to be disappointed.

(Please note, we are a small, not-for-profit club with a policy of keeping the entry prices low to encourage more people to experience live acoustic music. We usually pay our guests the money that we collect on the door on the night – and even the MCs pay for their entry! – but we are open to working other ways).
Although the bar and toilets are on the ground floor, the Folk Club meets in a room on the first floor, up a flight of stairs. Unfortunately there is no lift in Loughton Club so the Folk Club is not accessible for wheelchair users or those with severe mobility issues.
